‘Share-A-Meal' (SAM) In February this year, Project WINGS joined hands with local charity MILK (Mainly I Love Kids) in the Share-A-Meal (SAM) project. This was a project to encourage students to 'Share-A-Meal' by donating the cost of a meal so that needy children could have a proper meal. For nearly 2 weeks during the busy Lunar New Year season, some 150 volunteers delivered and collected 1,571 donation cans to 85 schools across Singapore. Response to the donation drive was overwhelming, to say the least. It was heartening to note that school principals put the cans in the canteens, promoting the spirit of sharing. Students all over Singapore were similarly very enthusiastic about the project and had no hesitation in digging into their pockets and sharing a little bit with the less fortunate children. On February 19, the volunteers gathered at Henderson Community Club to count the donations, together with several lady MPs. Together with corporate and miscellaneous donations, SAM collected nearly $149,000. These funds were used to help underprivileged children with their educational needs and about 4,000 children benefited from these funds |
