ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DIVISION (APD)

Introduction

Established in July 2009, the Academic and Professional Development Division (APD) at PCF HQ oversees the development, delivery and evaluation of curriculum at PCF Education Centres, be they kindergartens or child care centres. APD comprises the Curriculum Team and the Language Specialists Team.

Curriculum Team

The team of curriculum specialists at APD work closely with the PCF Education Centres to support classroom teaching and curriculum delivery, and provide advice in the setting up of the learning environment to support children's learning. They keep abreast of the latest developments in the field of early childhood education and share their knowledge and expertise on various platforms.

The curriculum team believes that play is an integral part of learning, and has incorporated purposeful play activities in the curriculum to actively engage children in constructing knowledge and discovering new relationships in a fun and enjoyable manner.

The curriculum adopts a thematic, integrated approach that supports children's holistic development. Closely aligned with MOE's Preschool Curriculum Framework and the Kindergarten Curriculum Guide, the curriculum aims to develop children to become life-long learners by helping them to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and dispositions through six learning areas:

  • Aesthetics & Creative Expression
  • Environmental Awareness
  • Self and Social Awareness
  • Language & Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Motor Skills Development
  •
    Language Specialists Team

The English Language (EL) Specialists and Chinese Language (CL) Specialists work closely with the Curriculum Team as well as with Centre Principals and teachers. They develop and deliver appropriate training courseware for teaching staff to raise the overall proficiency of staff in English and Chinese.
