On 13 September 2025, PAP Community Foundation (PCF) and the Japan Society for Dementia Prevention (Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture) signed an MOU to establish a collaborative relationship in the field of dementia prevention and elder care.
Both countries face common challenges such as the rapid ageing of society and the increasing prevalence of dementia and frailty. The exchange of knowledge and experience is vital in addressing these issues. Through this cooperative relationship, we aim to share further knowledge and experience in dementia prevention and create mutually beneficial outcomes.
The ageing ratio in Japan is 29.3% (aged 65 and above as of January 2024) and is expected to rise further, reaching 32.3% in 2035 (Cabinet Office data) — an ageing society that the world has never experienced before. In addition, the number of people aged 85 and over is expected to exceed 10 million (according to the Nissay Research Institute).
Singapore, on the other hand, is also ageing rapidly, with an ageing rate of 19.1% (aged 65 and above) as of 2023, putting it on the verge of becoming a super-aged society. This figure is expected to reach 23.8% by 2030.
In this context of increasing ageing populations, it is not a problem faced by one country alone. International information sharing and cooperation are essential, and we believe that by building international collaborative relationships, we can work towards a higher level of dementia prevention.
