PCF Sparkletots children learn to give back to society through Start Small Dream Big community projects

SINGAPORE, 29 September 2017 – Some 250 pre-schoolers aged three to six years old, from five PCF Sparkletots preschools at Bishan North Branch celebrated the conclusion of their Start Small Dream Big (SSDB) journey with their families and teachers this morning. The children put together joyful performances and had an exhibition showcase of their SSDB projects. The finale event was graced by Guest-of-Honour, Minister Josephine Teo, Chairperson of PCF Executive Committee and Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC. Through their various SSDB projects, the children learned to innovate creatively, problem-solve and tap on their unique strengths to help others in the community.

During the event, Mrs Teo and other guests had a tour of the various activity booths. Some children also led the elderly to do simple exercises, of which Mrs Teo joined in. These community projects kickstarted in April 2017 – where the children had the opportunity to be involved in projects such as ‘Conservation Starts With Me’, ‘Kindness Starts With Me’, ‘C.A.R.E. (Care and Respect for the Elderly)’, ‘The Amazing Magnet – Fundraising’ and ‘Water Conservation’ (More information can be found in the Factsheet). The SSDB project is part of the President’s Challenge and is an Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) initiative to engage children in meaningful activities to promote community awareness.
PCF CEO, Mr Victor Bay, said, “At PCF Sparkletots, we are always looking for opportunities like the Start Small Dream Big programme, for our children to engage with the wider community. I am proud to see how our children are learning to give back to society. These activities contribute to a holistic learning environment for our children, where character building is incorporated at an early age. Our key priorities are to nurture our PCF Sparkletots children to be life-long learners, and for them to be active and responsible citizens as well.”
